I woke up before dawn, as always, the city of Femail is still sleeping under a gray haze of smoke and hunger. My empty, howling stomach reminded me that I had no choice in leading this life. My mother left me on the streets. My stepmother hated me. Eleven siblings teased me although they called me family. The noble blood of my father is the blood that runs through my veins. Yet, all I have is tattered clothes and empty hands.
The old brick building where I lived was falling apart. It had a tiny garden. I got down on my knees in the garden. When my hands touched the dirt I talked to the seeds under my fingers. The little green buds started shaking like they were answering me. I was part of a group but I was the weakest one. An omega. The seeds were like my friends. They listened to me. I was smaller, than the others so they did not notice me much. They forgot about me.. I was not harmless. The city was very hungry. I had food to give it but I had to keep it a secret. The city and the seeds and I. We were all. I was the one who could help the city but only the seeds knew about it.
My stepmothers voice was loud and clear in the morning. She told Elara not to waste her time with dirt and weeds. She said that what people think is more important than those things. At the time she hit me. The pain from the hit did not bother me that much. My stepmother never really understood me. None of the people in my life ever did. My stepsiblings would make fun of me all the time. The people, in the city would pick on me because I was poor. My mother left me to become rich and famous.
While working with the sprouts, I thought of my father, who loved me before he died. The sickness took him before I was born, while my mother was pregnant with me. He had always believed in miracles. Maybe he left one in me.
The day went by slowly. I was very hungry. My hands just kept on working. By the evening my little garden was looking great. The vegetables and herbs were shining in the evening sun. I picked them carefully. Then I went out into the alleys to give some to my neighbors who did not have any food.
People started talking about the girl who had a special gift and was feeding the hungry people. When my step-siblings heard about it they burst out laughing. They said things, like: The Omega Goddess is poor? They just. Laughed. I did not pay any attention to the Omega Goddess thing I just ignored them. Kept on doing what I was doing with my garden and my neighbors and the food. The Omega Goddess rumors kept on spreading. I did not let it bother me.
The week went by. The city got hungrier. The citys hunger just kept getting worse as the days went by. The hunger of the city increased.
The rulers of Femail, the Alphas were really struggling with the famine. I could see it in their eyes they were in a way. The famine was taking a toll on them and they did not know what to do. Their eyes told me all I needed to know it was time to do something.
One night when the moon was shining bright I went out and planted the largest field of Femail I had ever planted. I was talking to the soil as my father would have wanted me to, being gentle and kind. It was like something amazing happened, because the plants of Femail started growing fast. They grew to maturity in a few hours instead of taking weeks like they normally do. I was shocked and happy, at the time.
I took the produce from the field of Femail to the city gates of Femail.
People are really amazed when I give out food. The Alphas do not say anything. They notice that the girl is very good at what she does. My stepsiblings try to cause problems for me in the city. In the end it is clear that I will help them. The Alpha Council meets after the famine is over. The citizens and the girl and the Alpha Council and my stepsiblings all see that I am making a difference. The girl is me. I am happy to be helping people, in the city. The Alpha Council is important. They meet to talk about the famine and how I helped to end it.
The head Alpha told me that I have earned the Alpha Trust. He had a deep voice that you could feel. Now an Omega will not be ashamed, in Femail. The Alpha said that the Omegas bravery, sense and special gift have saved our city. The Alpha Trust is a deal and I am happy that the Omega has earned it. The Omegas courage and wisdom have made a difference in Femail. The Alpha Trust is something that the Omega should be very proud of.
Tears fell down my face. I was not crying because I was sad. All the bad things that happened to me, like being hungry and rejected and lied to finally led me to this moment. I became strong not by fighting. By taking care of things that others had given up on. My stepsiblings look at me with envy. They cannot believe it but I know this is not the time to get back at them. The years of being starved and rejected and betrayed were really hard. They made me stronger and I will not let my stepsiblings bring me down because I rose above all that and I will keep moving forward and I will keep nurturing life just like I have been doing. I had a lot of work to do. I wanted to make the city a better place. I also wanted to give my father the respect he deserved.. I had to accept the life that was meant for the city and for my father and, for me. The city needed my help. My father needed my help and I needed to accept my fate.
In the rifle city of Femail were a place of poverty and wolves ruled the street, an omega became the faithful savior, keeper of life and the girl who earned the alpha trust.
